Don’t call it a comeback.

la_radiostudio_bw300From this week, Future Vintage starts recording new radioshows again. It took us a while, but we’re very delighted to have a new studio (this time in Amsterdam) and to collaborate with VPRO 3voor12. We’ll record a new 2 hour show every 2 weeks, that you can stream/download/podcast from this blog as usual, or listen to at the 3voor12 website. Melodee and I will present and select the music, together with various DJ’s. 3voor12 is also the public broadcasting station where our friends from Viral Radio are doing their bi-monthly show – so you’ll have an new Viral Radio or Future Vintage episode every week. Promotors, musicians, producers: please send your new music to info [at] FutureVintage.net. UPDATE: Show goes online monday tuesday.

Also we’re looking forward to recording a show in the NAI, Netherlands Institute for Architecture, in Rotterdam. On December 11th Future Vintage will make a special episode there on sounds of different cities, as part of the Open City exhibition.

It’s their time, mine has passed

By Radna · November 16th, 2009, 12:03 · Special post

domu-outProbably most of you already heard about Domu leaving the music scene. The 31 year old producer, who was on the forefront of UK broken beat music since an early age, has decided it’s time to quit. Because of a lack of inspiration, the loss of  joy in making music, and a feeling there’s not much to add anymore. My words don’t really count here, what really hit me is the way Domu is explaining it himself, on his weekly blog.

“I once believed in all of it, that I made and played music for a certain type of person, for people who didn’t want to adhere to the ‘normal’ way of life, the free thinker, the independent or open minded type who was bored of the genres, the staples, the blueprints or the formulae. The underground. But I just don’t truly believe I am needed in this battle anymore. It has been passed down to another generation, who are doing it their way, and I have no desire to try and edge in and start proclaiming to be fighting a fight that is no longer mine. I am a 31-year-old man.”

I think his whole statement says a lot about music nowadays. It’s the first time I read about an artist who decides to quit so out in the open, before fading away or going in a wrong direction. It’s a bit harsh, being 31 it’s time to leave it to a new generation. But I mainly see this decision as a vey honest one. On the brighter side, KC the Funkaholic is celebrating his 25-year DJ career in club Trouw soon, during a party called Forever. Everyone is coping different with getting older, experiencing new genres and revivals in music come and go – going for a short or livelong career in music, is a personal and probably difficult choice to make.

Butterstar Galactica

By Radna · November 1st, 2009, 19:18 · Things We Like

I’m nohudson_mohawke_blogt really a gamefarasgnatic, but when its soundtrack is one of the most exciting albums of the year and Whitney Houston is doing the voice-overs, I’m a fan. Yes, I’m talking about Butterstar Galactica, the game that Warp recently launched to celebrate Butter, the debut album of Hudson Mohawke.

This friday Hudson Mohawke has his album release party in Trouw at Viral Radio, where he’s accompanied by Mamiko Motto’ and Ras G, and ofcourse Juha and Cinnaman. The day after, on the 7th of November, Mamiko will also provide the soundtrack for the opening of Museum Night (n8), which involves a lightprojection on the courtyard of the Hermitage museum in Amsterdam. With 42 locations (from the Planetarium to the Olympic Stadium, and from the Pianola Museum to the Van Gogh Museum), there’s a lot happening, so please visit the website for more info. For now I’ll leave you with Cosmic Tones 4 Mental Therapy Vol. 1 by Ras G (featured on Dublab before):
