• Future Vintage

Future Vintage is a radioshow dedicated to discovering the history and future of soul, jazz, hiphop, electronic & psychedelic music, with no boundaries. It’s presented by Radna, Reinier and various guest DJ’s. We broadcast every Tuesday from 8-9PM on Red Light Radio, live from the Amsterdam red light district.

In 2007 Future Vintage was founded by Melodee, Radna, Tom Trago & KC the Funkaholic. Over here you’ll find the best shows from our extensive archive, new podcasts and news & views about the music we like to share with you.

Aardvarck – Tribute to John Coltrane

By Radna · February 24th, 2010, 22:49 · Things We Like

When exploring unknown territory of music, a DJ mix is often a good starting point. For me, jazz is still a bit distant and abstract (although I do have some jazz records, go to concerts and am in the middle of reading Sun Ra’s biography). It might change, also because Aardvarck just payed tribute to John Coltrane by sharing a one hour selection on RMBA Radio.

His choice for John Coltrane is maybe a surprise for those who know him from his techno and beat related productions, but Aardvarck has an encyclopidiac knowledge of music – and I’m happy he shares that with us. Oh and while your at it, please also check out the classic Sun Ra tribute by Max Cole & 1.1.

Show 7 – preview 5 days off

By Radna · February 22nd, 2010, 21:22 · Radio Shows

The studio is working again! Because the annual 5 days off festival is around the corner, we already played some favourites by artists that will perform in Amsterdam, such as MF Doom, Floating Points and Linkwood. But first we’re looking forward to Disco3000 feat. Theo Parrish, IF and Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir this Friday. You can even win 2 tickets for that, if you e-mail the correct answer to our improvised question before Thursday. We’re not talking much, Melodee is still on holiday, so it’s just Radna & Reinier playing proper music, future vintage style.

PS: as promised in the show, a link to more music by Baths.

The look of love

By Radna · February 12th, 2010, 18:17 · Things We Like

Like every year around February 14th, the web is full of Valentine mixes. Although I still enjoy KC the Funkaholic’s Quiet Storm (which is quite sexy, and quite funny, since both Marvin Gaye and Borat are involved) I also have to recommend the latest podcast by Stones Throw.

It features all the looks of love: the new, the forbidden, the unanswered, the one at first sight and the neverending. Also, the line-up of this mix is amazing: Dam-Funk, J.Rocc, James Pants, Peanut Butter Wolf and Mayer Hawthorne all play 10 minutes of love tracks. Happy Valentine!

Show 6 – Under construction

By Radna · February 9th, 2010, 9:38 · Radio Shows

New music by American Men, Jose James, Dimlite and Erykah Badu – it’s all in this show that alsmost didn’t happen. Arriving at the studio we found out the server exploded (!) and all the equipment has to be fixed. So we postponed our special guest for a later show, but to didn’t leave you empty-handed, we still made a one hour Future Vintage selection. No Melodee (she’s on holiday), no good mic (it’s Radna who speaks in her crackling laptop after just waking up), but simply great music (thanks Reinier). So, tune in!
