Future Vintage is a radioshow dedicated to discovering the history and future of soul, jazz, hiphop, electronic & psychedelic music, with no boundaries. It’s presented by Radna, Reinier and various guest DJ’s. We broadcast every Tuesday from 8-9PM on Red Light Radio, live from the Amsterdam red light district.
In 2007 Future Vintage was founded by Melodee, Radna, Tom Trago & KC the Funkaholic. Over here you’ll find the best shows from our extensive archive, new podcasts and news & views about the music we like to share with you.
"They play nothing that you would hear on the radio, but everything you’d rather hear on the radio." – Inquiringmind Magazine
Because I missed recording Future Vintage (we are in doubt if and how to continue, because our new studio didn’t work out as hoped for – got ideas?) I started playing records on Ustream the last 2 weeks, just when I felt like it. If you missed the live broadcasting; here’s the hour I played last Sunday night. All improvised, all vinyl. Pssst, just a little heads up about Seeing Sounds this thursday, since I think Future Vintage listeners will like this one especially. Seeing Sounds #4 is dedicated to the music and ideas of legendary jazz composer Sun Ra. Born on Saturn and known for his cosmic philosophy, the mythical Sun Ra touched the entire history of jazz, from swing music to electronic experiments. His film Space is the Place (1974) is an entertaining mix of blaxploitation, afro-futurism and avant-garde jazz, where Sun Ra saves Afro-Americans by transporting them outerspace through music. Max Cole, who in the past interviewed bandmembers of Sun Ra’s Intergalactic Myth-Science Solar Arkestra, gives an introduction and plays a selection of Sun Ra’s extensive music catalog.
“I’m here on the planet, you might say, for a mission. That means that I have to be careful what musicians I use.” – Sun Ra
“Black power and free jazz collided with the fashion sense of Superfly” – New York Times
To celebrate a new night at the SJU Jazz stage in Utrecht, the three gentlemen of Zick Zack Soundsystem present a mix dedicated to the musical diversity of UK soundsystem culture. If you’re into deep street soul, freestyle jazz, heavy bass funk, Caribean sounds and new electronic vibes from London, you’d probably love this.
June 11, the soundsystem plays in the bassment of SJU and hopes to bring a fresh flavour to the Utrecht music scene. This mix and the artwork (made by Hoax) are a promising start. Fudge special 11 juni by ZickZacksoundsystem
