FV 014 – Goodbye 2010 with Paul White

By Radna · December 31st, 2010, 10:41 · Radio Shows

We end the year with a zoete inval of different guests in the studio. Future Vintage presenter from day one, Melodee, is there to look back at the past year and play some favourite tracks. And then also Paul White was in town.

This producer from London released an album on Now Again records earlier this year, and is part of the One Handed Music family. We always were fans of his kaleidoscopic productions, now he plays some at the last part of the show.

Enjoy your new years eve, we’ll be back in 2011!

Some 2010 favourites

By Radna · December 27th, 2010, 16:38 · Things We Like

I’m not sure about lists. To be honest, there was probably a lot of great music I didn’t listen to last year. But looking back, I heard some nice things, during live performances, in DJ sets or just at home. Here are my 2010 favourites.

Micachu and the Shapes / London Sinfonietta
During a visit to London I suddenly fell in love with Mica Levi, aka Micachu, during her one off concert with London Sinfonietta, called Chopped and Screwed. The performance was like a mixtape; full of unreleased material, a raspy, stubborn voice, selfmade instruments and experiment – like something could go wrong any second. But it didn’t.

Dimlite
There always has been something about Dimlite that made him stand apart from what’s used to be the ‘beat generation’. Last year he did an excellent performance at North Sea Jazz festival and Trouw (both Viral Radio). Vulnerable but really going for it. It was also a pleasure to interview him.

Inc.
Just before the year finished I saw an amazing video of Teen Inc. – who now call themselves just Inc. It’s cool and thight and stylish and confident. Sofar they just released a 7″ (A: Fountains B: Friend of the Night). It hints to a very early Prince, and I’m looking forward to more music from them the next year.

Maxmillion Dunbar / Beautiful Swimmers
The sound of Maxmillion Dunbar and his label Future Times were a perfect companionship this summer. The clunky funkiness, early westcoast hiphop and electro influences combined with uplifting spirits and soundscapes were all I could wish for. And then the DJ set by Beautiful Swimmers upstairs in Paradiso made me forget about Theo Parrish playing downstairs. Enough said.

Ariel Pink
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti hit me a bit late, but when the album Before Today finally kicked in it was there to stay. It’s an album I’d like to hear from start to finish, an after I’m wondering why it has to end so soon. Seeing Ariel Pink live made me remember the importance of live bands. And anthems like Round and Round.

So what were your favourites? Tomorrow we’ll have our end of the year show. The request line is open!

FV 013 – Merry Christmas

By Radna · December 24th, 2010, 17:14 · Radio Shows

It was a week full of snow, the kind of snow that makes you almost leave the bicycle at home. The perfect spirit to record a Christmas inspired Future Vintage episode. We don’t mind playing gospel from a former prostitute window. We hope you’ll enjoy this loose selection under the Christmas tree, it’s a bit all over the place. Happy holidays!

FV012 – Selected by Jorn

By Radna · December 17th, 2010, 16:26 · Radio Shows

Once a dedicated listener, but these days also one of our guest DJ’s, Jorn Konijn dropped by at the studio. He selected a warm blend of jazz, boogie and also some Brazilian and Indian music.

The neighours liked it too, and some guys on the street kicked a little freestyle outside the window. Want to know what our studio looks like? Here’s a video about Red Light Radio.

FV 011 – Opening Red Light Radio

By Radna · December 11th, 2010, 17:27 · Radio Shows

We’re very happy to be part of a new radiostation in Amsterdam: Red Light Radio. Last Thursday we broadcasted live from the Oudekerksplein, in a former prostitute window. It was great to see other radiomakers and musiclovers, but also tourists passing by – being surprised by this pop-up radio studio. Check the livestream at redlightradio.net or visit their soundcloud for more shows from the opening, by Orpheo, Steven de Peven, Aardvarck, Sandeman and others. Here’s our selection. FV 010 – Keep on Swimming

By Radna · December 6th, 2010, 0:54 · Radio Shows

The Beautiful Swimmers were quite amazing last Friday. An interview with them is coming up very soon, right here. But for now it’s your usual Sunday night treat from Future Vintage Radio – that place where Phonophani meets Hodgy Beats (thank you Reinier).

If you want to be at the recording of one of our radio shows, that’s possible. On Thursday December 9th we record at Red Light Radio, together with people like Moon & Sun, Tom Trago and Aardvarck. Free drinks included. And then on January 21st, we record in TokoMC – where we continue the night with a proper party until 3. So save the date. And press play.
