Get the money, support RedLightRadio

By Radna · May 31st, 2011, 16:35 · Special post, Things We Like

Cash rules everthing around us these days. It might be hard times for arts & culture, but that doesn’t mean things are not happening. It’s all about founding new ways to do what you believe in, also if that doesn’t fit in a certain box. We’re amazingly happy to be part of Red Light Radio, our station in the red light district. It’s not only the lovely studio we enjoy, but also to be part of a group of likeminded radio makers. So we don’t need your cash, but Red Light Radio needs some. To pay the rent, to fix a broken needle now and then, to support the guys who run the studio day & night and to keep that unlimited soundcloud account.

Will you support? DONATE

The goods news there’s already 80% of the money that’s needed to continue, here at crowdfunding platform voordekunst. More than 130 people donated, so please join them and donate something at the website. There’s just 3 days left! And also visit the Red Light Radio benefit party, this Thursday at Boom Chicago Social Club (Amsterdam). Future Vintage is playing upstairs from 22.30 – 00.00, we’re looking forward, and don’t want this to stop.

FV 036 – For Love I Come

By Radna · May 29th, 2011, 9:39 · Radio Shows

Sometimes the steeldrums, whatyoucallit grime or postpunk disco vibes are just not there. Last Tuesday we went for the more softer side of life, with soulful songs by Bilal, Thundercat and D’Angelo. But that might perfectly work with Kyle Hall. Have a listen for yourself.
Yesterdag the sad news reached us Gil Scott Heron passed away. He will be missed, and we won’t forget. Let’s remember dancing on The Bottle, smiling about Sex Education Getto Style or being touched by Pieces of a Man, forever. Rest in peace.

FV 035 – Love in Outer Space

By Radna · May 19th, 2011, 20:51 · Radio Shows

When I started with Future Vintage about four years ago, a friend from New York sent me a song, without any info. I liked it instantly, and later found out it was Nuclear War from Sun Ra. Ofcourse Sun Ra is no stranger to Future Vintage. With KC the Funkaholic being one of the founders of the show, we always had Ra’s catalogue available. And recentlty, KC’s label Kindred Spirits started (re-)releasing Sun Ra records in collaboration with Art Yard, such as this great concert from 1971, called ‘The Paris Tapes‘.

This Saturday Kindred Spirits presents a Sun Ra dedication night at Toko MC. With a lecture by John Sinclair, films by Stephen Serrato, DJ Max Cole & KC the Funkaholic, plus a live performance by Saturn never Sleeps (King Britt & Rucyl). We thought it would be the perfect reason to play lots of Sun Ra music in this show.

FV 034 – Memorabilia

By Radna · May 16th, 2011, 23:54 · Radio Shows

It’s not a secret we like Palm Trees. Or stretched disco edits by some UK producer (called Mark E in this case). But did you hear that new Linkwood record yet? And do you remember Southern Hospitality from 10 years ago? We did last week, recording a later than usual episode of Future Vintage.

Have a listen, and also check us live next Tuesday (yes, tomorrow). We will play some extra Sun Ra in anticipation of the upcoming weekend, with the Sun Ra dedication night in Toko MC + a lovely record fair at OT301.

FV 033 – Double Bill

By Reinier · May 6th, 2011, 14:03 · Radio Shows

After a brief hiatus in posts on this blog, I decided to hit you with not one but the two last shows, just before the weekend.

This one being a more regular show again, doesn’t mean we weren’t a bit chuffed after our hour of recording. Going from Usher to the gothic anthem that is Bela Legosi’s Dead in just half an hour is pure Future Vintage if you ask me. Furthermore we have more recent classics like Sunrays by Yesterdays New Quintet and the future classic Clouds Over The Pacific, the single of James Pants’ recently dropped album.

In case you don’t want to miss your weekly show, don’t forget we are live every Tuesday from 8 to 9 pm GMT+1 on Red Light Radio, there’s a Facebook chat thing on there too (yes we’re on Facebook), shout-outs guaranteed. And if there’s new music you want to share, feel free to drop it in our mailbox.

See you next week.

FV 032 – Monorail 2

By Reinier · May 6th, 2011, 13:22 · Radio Shows

And this is Radna going vinyl only. So good to do this once in a while, hearing her selection it reminds me of all the good things that used to wow me when I first heard it, but seem to forget when going trough overwhelming iTunes lists or my records for shows and gigs. It may sound corny, but vinyl forces you to play straight up quality.

I didn’t get the playlist, but it’s really nice hearing Herbie Hancock, Bilal with Get Out Of My Hair, J Dilla instrumentals, Pharoah Sanders, Theo Parrish remixing LCD Soundsystem, and finally blowing my mind hearing the Sunshowers edit coming in on 45 minutes (had the same reaction as Orpheu, but I still want to know what was THAT!?), and after mr. fingers ending with a slow version of Sa-Ra’s Hollywood. Boom! This show will stay on regular ‘rotation’.

Radna, are we going to post a playlist or will we keep the magic?
