Future Vintage is a radioshow dedicated to discovering the history and future of soul, jazz, hiphop, electronic & psychedelic music, with no boundaries. It’s presented by Radna, Reinier and various guest DJ’s. We broadcast every Tuesday from 8-9PM on Red Light Radio, live from the Amsterdam red light district.
In 2007 Future Vintage was founded by Melodee, Radna, Tom Trago & KC the Funkaholic. Over here you’ll find the best shows from our extensive archive, new podcasts and news & views about the music we like to share with you.
"They play nothing that you would hear on the radio, but everything you’d rather hear on the radio." – Inquiringmind Magazine
After an amazing Tuesday night last week with our friends from On-Point, we’re also organising some things in the city this weekend. As you might know I’m doing this filmnight called ‘Seeing Sounds‘ for a while now, a film night about music. Usually it’s in de Verdieping, but this week Off Centre invited me to make a night program full of my favorite music documentary bits, that will be screened both Friday & Saturday night at Melkweg Cinema. It’s just finished and features Derrick May, Kraftwerk, Timbaland, Herbie Hancock, Diplo, The Neptunes and many others.
Saturday we have a special edition of Seeing Sounds at the Muziekgebouw. As part of the Listen To This series, there’s a sideprogramme around the Frank Zappa concert, played by DoelenEnsemble. Before the concert there’s a documentary, and after Reinier, The Son of Invention & Maarten Rohaan will play Zappa inspired DJ sets. I’m looking forward, see the full program here.
Want to join us? We can give away 2 tickets for Zappa at Muziekgebouw. Leave a message to info@futurevintage.net – first come first served!

Yes, after the brilliant mix by Aardvarck we went a bit quiet. After summers ending autumn really starts, and basically everybody gets busy again. Hope you didn’t miss the updates too much. Now you finally have the playlist to this moody show, somehow the music really fits being inside during shorter days and longer nights (be it the club, be it at home).
Some exceptions though: Pharrel’s lovely Allure instrumental, When I Think Of You, but certainly the Jorge Ben track stands firm against darker moods, and infects everyone that hears it. This will be our anthem when playing out in the next months.
Thundercat – Mystery Machine (The Golden Age Of Apocalypse)
JtotheC – Nbitje Deeper In The Woods
Dennis Bovell – Manhunter / Jürgen Knieper – Lied Vom Kindsein
Kid Creole and the Coconuts – Bongo Eddie’s Lament
Jorge Ben – Babilonia rework
Wally Badarou – Chief Inspector
Jay-Z – Allure instrumental
Aswad – Hey Jah Children
Horace Andy – Musical Episode dub
Dexter – Bo-Dyned
Come Truce – Datebar
Fearless Four – Rockin’ It
Ron Browz – Pop Champagne instrumental
Womack & Womack – The Letter (My Dear)
Janet Jackson – When I Think Of You
FunkinEven – Take Back

I was hoping I to be able able to do our independent landmark show 050 with Radna, but I was still on my way back from London and the Notting Hill Carnival. If you’re a regular listener, you may have noticed that near the end of August our shows get a little more London and Dancehall focussed.
The Notting Hill Carnival is the biggest street carnaval in Europe and takes place during the August bank holiday. Combine London, Caribbean culture and a bank holiday and you’re fit for lot’s of bass, chicken and ecstatic night life.
This show could be a future vintage echo of that, larded with 2 step classics, the original soul songs, ‘post eskibeat’, soca inspired stuff, and pre-jungle’ish Nu Yorican Soul. Enjoy.
Beaty Heart – 2Good (Jam City Remix)
Little Dragon – Seconds (Syd Tha Kyd remix)
Flying Lotus – Zodiac Shift (Sonnymoon remix)
Brian Eno & David Byrne – New Feet
Pangaea – Memories
Vince Watson – Solitude
Nu Yorican Soul – The Nervous Track
Saxx – Don’t Turn Your Back on Me
BD1985 – Calenture (Murlo remix)
Timberlee – No Stress
Thundercat – Fleer Ultra
Alice Smith – Love Endeavour (Maurice Fulton remix)
Madlib – Understanding
Gladys Knight – Neither One Of Us
Lil’ Wayne – Nightmares of the Bottom
Wally Badarou – Chief Inspector (Hill Street version)
I’m only 5 minutes on my way in this mix, but I already hear so many of my favorite beats that I though it would be worthy to share this with as much people as possible. Thank you Aardvarck. I guess this is for everyone who loves Milk’s Get of My Log just as much as Hudson Mohawke’s Oops.

We all know the feeling, when the end of summer is near, and you wonder why it went so fast. And in the Amsterdam case, you wonder if there even was a summer. It’s the right time to indulge in some vibes from the tribes, listening to lustrous love songs while feeling like a headless hero. You’ll get it if you check this latest show, that is number 50! Oh yes, there are even plenty more episodes, but we started counting again when we got totally independent (without support from the public broadcasters like back in the days, which luckily made us join forces with our beloved Red Light Radio station).
It’s Radna solo by the way. While Reinier was travelling back from London, I tried to manage a turntable, cd player, laptop and a mic all at once. Which was confusing sometimes, and explains the hissing needles, impromptu silences and unintentional rewinds.
Thundercat – It Really Doesn’t Matter To You
Ras G – Filith Factor ‘98
Rozzi Daime – Dirty Illusions
Gary Davis – Pop
Daedelus – You’re The One feat. Om’Mas Keith
Madlib & MF Doom – Bistro
Sun Ra – Interstellar Low-ways
Thundercat – Is It Love?
Dimlite – Outernational Duet feat. Gaby Hernandez

Yesterdays Universe Allstars - Vibes from the Tribes Suite (For Phil)
Lonnie Liston Smith & the Cosmic Echoes – Summer Nights
Jean-Luc Ponty – Etheral Mood
