FV 058 – Coffee Time

By Reinier · October 31st, 2011, 23:01 · Radio Shows

Didn’t get to writing this post until today, when again I had one cup too much! (which was the case with both of us recording this show). Power is the word and we went straight for the kicks. Check for some new T. Williams, INKSWEL, Onra and Ango. And some old Grace Jones (Compass Studios!), Common and Prince.

Don’t know what this tranquil little boat has to do with a coffee rush, but hell, the start of the show made me think of Caribbean harbors and illustrations from the 50’s.

FV 057 – blend

By Reinier · October 23rd, 2011, 23:42 · Radio Shows

Don’t be fooled by the easy start, it turns into a little whirlwind, cools down and starts over again.

We both had a week without music basically, so the selection goes straight through digital music libraries and dusty vinyl. It may not be so slick, but it’s a selection that made me discover forgotten tunes. Enjoy.

New: Red Light Radio app

By Radna · October 22nd, 2011, 12:01 · Things We Like

It’s quite a nice week for Red Light Radio, our homebase at the Red Light District in Amsterdam. Not only some great guests popped by because of the annual Amsterdam Dance Event, also it was the week a camera got installed for livestreaming, and the amazing Red Light Radio app got launched!
Designed by Piet Parra, it works very simple: press play to listen live, or add a ‘remind’ to get a notification when your favourite show will start. It’s free, and you can download it here.

FV 056 – B-sides & dubs

By Radna · October 12th, 2011, 23:32 · Radio Shows

Selecting music, I often like the physical format of vinyl – it makes you have less options, with cover art that can say a lot about the music inside. This idea was a starting point for the latest radio show.

Very simple: I found this crate with records that the ginger prince (who’s incidentally dropping by at the show) wanted to sell or trade, and decided to make a set with only records from this single crate. What can you make out of leftovers? Have a listen and judge for yourself. Meanwhile, Reinier is in London, visiting museums, reading rooms and clubs (Lunice tonight!) he’ll be back next week again.

FV 055 – legend in his own mind

By Reinier · October 7th, 2011, 18:06 · Radio Shows

I had to get a lot of stuff sorted out in the morning before this show, and Goblin kept me company. I listened to one of my favorite tracks of the album on the tram that morning, and decided to put it in the playlist. Next time I will think again, since Radna and Red Light Radio’s Orpheu where quite shocked to hear Fishes, and even more shocked when I told about Charles Burns’ graphic novel Black Hole to explain the way I digg this stuff. I can’t blame them for being shocked, I’m thankful they were, now I know it’s okay keep some things for yourself.

Don’t think this whole show is as dramatic as the above, it’s pretty decent and okay. And I’m still myself, easy and pretty quiet in the show ;) . Radna will be in total charge next week, since I’m in London (again!).

See you.

FV 054 – United

By Reinier · October 7th, 2011, 17:34 · Radio Shows

A bit of a freestyle episode. It works quite well when you’re busy, and it makes you discover new and old music better. For instance: there are some tunes we had to play because we liked them a lot, and we just got them, like the songs by Dam Funk, Sad City and Arthur Russell and Pascal Plantinga. But some songs we played are from way back, like Rocking by James Pants, and Terror Danjah, or pretty well known, like Dance, Dance, Dance by Chic.

I’m curious to know if you will find something new in here. Enjoy.

FV 053 – hits and kicks

By Reinier · October 7th, 2011, 17:01 · Radio Shows

Oh yes, the first post in what I think is a never seen before triple update of the blog. Lately we are enjoying the live thing at Red Light Radio so much we tend to forget the blog. I hope we didn’t leave your RSS/Twitter/Facebook feed hanging too long, but I’m glad to have found the time to do this update.

Already a few weeks ago it’s hard to remember the mood we were in recording this show, but it was quite positive I guess. Radna’s visit to Brussels had something to do with that. Hmm, what more, there’s a recap of the weekend in this, with a nice mix of Syclops (which I heard Funkineven play in Amsterdam) and Afefe Iku (which Radna heard Maurice Fulton play in Brussels). All in all a lot of hard drums, if you got stuff to finish, let this one take you there.
