This thursday we are invited by our friends of On Point to play at one of their On Point invites… nights at De Bonnefooi in Brussels. Looking forward to do a set together with Radna again, and Red Light Radio boss Orpheu is joining as well. It’s a full bill so who knows what else will happen… I think it’s going to be a very, very good one. If your down with the click, see you there.

Maybe you can remember we went to Zurich last summer for the International Radio Festival. For long I thought the only way to hear the show was live from 12 to 3 pm. Luckily, the show is on mixcloud now. I haven’t heard it yet myself, and I’m very curious how we sound (we just arrived from a sleepless 12 hr train ride). The result is below, when I find the playlist I will add it below. Enjoy.

As you might know I’m doing this filmnight called ‘Seeing Sounds‘ for a while now, a film night about music. Usually it’s in de Verdieping, but this week Off Centre invited me to make a night program full of my favorite music documentary bits, that will be screened both Friday & Saturday night at Melkweg Cinema. It’s just finished and features Derrick May, Kraftwerk, Timbaland, Herbie Hancock, Diplo, The Neptunes and many others.

Saturday we have a special edition of Seeing Sounds at the Muziekgebouw. As part of the Listen To This series, there’s a sideprogramme around the Frank Zappa concert, played by DoelenEnsemble. Before the concert there’s a documentary, and after Reinier, The Son of Invention & Maarten Rohaan will play Zappa inspired DJ sets. I’m looking forward, see the full program here.

Want to join us? We can give away 2 tickets for Zappa at Muziekgebouw. Leave a message to info@futurevintage.net – first come first served!

Friday March 25th, for the second time the Future Vintage crew throws an intimate party at Toko MC. We’ll start the night with a live radioshow, to continue on the dancefloor with DJ’s Radna & Reinier and special guest Mamiko Motto (Hepcatradio) from London. No rules, no boundaries, but a friendly gathering of beautiful swimmers, musiclovers and selectors.

Mamiko Motto (Hepcatradio, London) is a true tastemaker, always on the forefront selecting new sounds for her DJ sets and radio shows. She travelled all over the world, collaborated with Samurai.FM, Dublab, and these days broadcasts live from London under the name of Hepcatradio – where artists like Funkineven, James Pants, Lone and Jackmaster visit her studio.

Radna & Reinier (Future Vintage, Amsterdam) are every week in charge of the Future Vintage radio show at Red Light Radio. But recently they also started DJing togther, having a mutual love for handclaps, steeldrums and do-it-yourself aesthetics.

At the beginning of the night we made a radioshow on location, with a do-it-yourself set up. It was a nice experiment, and apart from the weekly show on Red Light Radio we’ll probably do more of this in the future.

Our special guest Stephen Serrato talked about his musical influences and designing record sleeves. Later that night he did a powerful set of LA based electro music – from a very early Dr. Dre to the Arabian Prince, and our small room turned into a party.

If you couldn’t make it: next month Reinier & Radna are DJing again, this time at a Friday night at the Van Gogh Museum, February 18th.

By public demand: 21 JAN – Future Vintage at Toko MC

It’s finally happening, we’re throwing a party! For one night we bring the sounds of our radioshow to the intimate dancefloor of Toko MC. No rules, no boundaries, but a friendly gathering of beautiful swimmers, musiclovers and selectors.

Come around 21.30 if you want to be at the recording of the radio show, because after 22.30 it’s time for a proper party with DJ’s Stephen Serrato, Radna & Reinier until 03.00.

Stephen Serrato is mostly known as a graphic designer. Originally from Los Angeles, where he designed for labels such as Stones Throw and Plug Research, he now resides in Amsterdam. In Toko MC he’ll play as diverse as his hometown and his interests go.

Radna & Reinier are every week in charge of the Future Vintage radioshow at Red Light Radio. But recently they also start DJing togther, having a mutual love for handclaps, steeldrums, early dancehall and do-it-yourself aesthetics.

Toko MC is the brand new bar/restaurant near MC Theater in Westerpark. After the succes of Toko 94 in Rotterdam, now Toko MC brings their modern take on Carribean cuisine & cocktails to Amsterdam.

Future Vintage at Toko MC takes place in the small room behind the restaurant – where it will be dark and intimate and where’s as much sound allowed as we like.

Don’t miss, and invite your friends too!

RSVP on Facebook / Entrance €4,- / Polonceaukade 5 / Westerpark / Amsterdam

Born on Saturn and known for his cosmic philosophy, the mythical Sun Ra touched the entire history of jazz, from swing music to electronic experiments. His film Space is the Place (1974) is an entertaining mix of blaxploitation, afro-futurism and avant-garde jazz, where Sun Ra saves Afro-Americans by transporting them outerspace through music. Max Cole, who in the past interviewed bandmembers of Sun Ra’s Intergalactic Myth-Science Solar Arkestra, gives an introduction and plays a selection of Sun Ra’s extensive music catalog.

“I’m here on the planet, you might say, for a mission. That means that I have to be careful what musicians I use.” – Sun Ra

Listen to this Sun Ra mix by Max Cole and 1.1.
