Future Vintage is a radioshow dedicated to discovering both new and old music. It's broadcasted every sunday from 23.00-24.00 on Dutch public radiostation Radio 6. The show is presented by Melodee & Radna, with Boye behind the turntables. Expect soul/funk/jazz legends, fresh producers, interviews, rare and not so rare disco, hiphop, house music and a lot of other great music we like to share with you.
Gisteravond ging het redelijk mis bij de uitzending van Future Vintage, gelukkig hebben we de juiste opname nog weten te achterhalen. And here’s another one. Thank you for all the kind words, and downloads (from Groningen to Venray to London, Milan and even San Jose). After the first Future Vintage at home podcast, Boye from Kindred Spirits decided to get his records and drop by for a part 2. The setup is still not what it should be, but we enjoyed selecting some music - see this as an experiment we will continue.
Because we both went to see the beautiful and delicate voiced Mia Doi Todd performing in Paradiso last sunday, the show contains her song River Of Life and more folk related music, by Gaby Hernandez and Terry Callier. But Boye is also a boogie fan, and couldn’t resist to play uplifting tracks like Bite The Apple. Update: we finally discovered the title of the last song, since Deluge’s iPhone recognized it was sampled by Rae and Christian. Oh well, just listen! Stream below or download here.
Playlist:
Brief Encounter – Get A Good Feeling

Long live garageband. After a nice talk this morning with Michel Mol, director new media for Dutch public broadcasting, who advised not to wait for oldfashioned radio, but do it yourself, I started a little experiment: Future Vintage at home.
It’s a very simple, but effective way to share music Future Vintage style. The show is made with just my laptop and a turntable (next time I’ll borrow some more equipment). Stream below or download the podcast over here and enjoy!
PS: We now also have an RSS feed to stay up to date, more shows will follow.

On 13th of September we recorded the second show at Pure Jazz Festival. This was the first time Melodee, Tom and I were together again after more then a month, so it was nice to catch up and do a show again - good vibes all over. We were happily surprised by the performance of M.T.C., 2 young musicians from Rotterdam (thanks Aardvarck and Mamiko for recommending them). Also the one and only San Proper dropped by and played some great tunes in the second hour. And Tom was freaking the jingles like a mad professor while we gathered a nice crowd this evening (with even Dutch superstar radiopresenter Giel Beelen staying for an hour). Thanks to everyone for coming over, we hope do more shows like this, next time in Amsterdam.

Here’s (finally!) the first show we recorded at the Pure Jazz festival, on 12th of September. It was kind of weird but nice to do show in a venue (in this case the upstairs bar at a trendy restaurant). Minus was the bad soundquality (how we miss our former professional and cosy studio) but plus was definately the interaction with the crowd and the live performances. Like Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn would say: Quality, No. Energy, Yes!
So enjoy here a quite raw and improvised show, with DJ Lefto behind the decks, KC playing his favourite jazz ensemble music, and Javaanse Jongens performing live! The second show is coming up next week (that one is actually sounding much better).

After more than 60 shows (and the same amount of trips to the studio in Hilversum every monday), Future Vintage is leaving Dutch public radiostation Lijn5 (NPS). Since Lijn5 is moving to the so-called urban station FunX, Future Vintage felt it was the right time to change directions. We want to thank the whole Lijn5 crew for believing in us and the positive energy that was always around - in the small studio in this big broadcasting building.
So welcome to FutureVintage.net, where we will keep you up to date about our future plans (we’re talking with a station at the moment but have to work out the details), and bring you shows and interviews from our archive, as well as new podcasts (to start with two shows we’ll record live at Pure Jazz festival, more info on that soon). Although we are a Dutch radioshow we decided to do this blog in English, so that people from abroad also can get involved.
In the last show on Lijn5, Tom Trago and Radna decided to look back at the past year and play tracks that we liked so much, or brought back special memories, that we wanted to play them again. The mics sounded a bit crappy (different studio set up), but we had a wine and a dance, so enjoy.

While Melodee was still on holiday and Tom was playing at the Lowlands festival, the lovely MamikO’ Motto was so nice to do another Future Vintage show with Radna. MamikO’ played lots of jazz, unreleased tracks by a.o Hudson Mohawke and Dorian Concept, and some uplifting house music as well. Since we were still broadcasting on national Dutch radio, there’s as always some Dutch talking going on, mainly about the future of the show, being in the middle of switching from one radiostation to another.
MamikO’ aka DJ 1.1 featured on Gilles Peterson’s Beat Special recently, also check her DidUReally show on Samurai.FM.

Kid Sublime, Amsterdam based producer, is one of these people that can talk very passionate about music. So that’s exactly what he did when he dropped by in the studio, a few weeks before the release of Rappin’ Blak, that will come out on Dopeness Galore. Sublime showed us some tracks (with featurings from a.o Camp Lo, Defari, Frank ‘n Dank) and also played music he gets inspired by, such as Herbie Hancock, Patrice Rushen and last but not least Pete Rock – along with a nice speech where he explains why Pete Rock’s new productions are more relevant than we might expect.
This show might be a bit hard to follow for our non-Dutch listeners, but skipping trough is allowed.
In the meantime Kid Sublime is working on his next project, ‘Welcome To The Hiphouse’, have a peak at his myspace.

Another show from the archives; the main thing I remember from this show is that we had a hangover from the great set Theo Parrish played the night before. Tom even didn’t sleep at all. Still it’s a very special one mainly for the last part of the second hour, where Samiyam and Ras G are in the studio and play a set of there best (unreleased) music. O Rasss!
