Future Vintage is a radioshow dedicated to discovering the history and future of soul, jazz, hiphop, electronic & psychedelic music, with no boundaries. It’s presented by Radna, Reinier and various guest DJ’s. We broadcast every Tuesday from 8-9PM on Red Light Radio, live from the Amsterdam red light district.
In 2007 Future Vintage was founded by Melodee, Radna, Tom Trago & KC the Funkaholic. Over here you’ll find the best shows from our extensive archive, new podcasts and news & views about the music we like to share with you.

Love (like last week) needs a counterpoint, and this show is gritty and a little ruff, especially the last half.
It wasn’t intended, but we liked it a lot. Some pretty inspiring music surfaced last week, like Delia Derbyshire recordings with people talking about their dreams, a mixtape previewing a solo project by Hype Williams’ Dean Blunt and a haunting Kendrick Lamar tune.
But check the playlist, there’s also an euphoric Johnny Guitar Watson, Argentinian and French wave music and Tiombe Lockhart over Augustus Pablo dubs.
NDF – Since We Last Met
Bullion – What Does She Know
Malcolm McClaren – World’s Famous
Johnny Guitar Watson – Wrapped In Black Mink
Canblaster & Nightwave – Power Up
Philippe Laurent – Distorsion
Art Of Noise – Snapshot
Antena – Achilles
Tiombe Lockhart – A Love Like This
Clint Eastwood & General Saint – We Can’t Take Another World War
Dean Blunt – II (fragment)
Kendrick Lamar – Cartoon & Cereal (feat. Gunplay)
Dwight Trible – Antiquity
Delia Derbyshire – Colours
Burial – Kindred
Lucky Dragons – Existers (Matthewdavid remix)
Dean Blunt – The Narcissist ft. Inga Copeland

We promised not to do a Valentine special, but when the day arrived it was hard to totally deny. And why not, playing love songs is not very uncommon for Future Vintage. Don’t expect the usual stuff though. There’s also enough space for a very tranquil Carlos Nino song, some 1 euro vinyl finds and a brand new 12″ by Andres. The picture has not much to do with it, but if you’re curious; it’s Jean-Michel Basquiat with his girlfriend Suzanne Mallouk.
Al Green – Simply Beautiful
Mo Kolours – Banana Wine
Sun Ra
Carlos Nino – “Listening to the conversation of the Birds . . .” featuring Iasos
Carpenters – Get Together
Prince & The Revolution- The Beautiful Ones

Bilal – You’re All I Need
Dane Chadwick – LA (Lazy Ass)

After a short trip to London, where I enjoyed visiting a David Shrigley exhibition and met up with Mamiko Motto (who celebrated her 10th Hepcat Radio anniversary this week), it was also good to be back in icy Amsterdam. This week we kick off with a monkey interlude followed by some uptempo brass and disco, before we get in a slower mood later in the show.
We also have some news about upcoming gigs: March 11th we take over the Paradiso basement during a 5 hour sunday night session at 5DaysOff, March 17th we’re back at Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, and in April we’ll head over to Mannheim, Germany. Save those dates, more news soon.

A show with tropical and dusty and funky vibes, but also a little melancholic, like you are probably used of us.
From Disco to Disco was my favourite song the week after this show, and taught me that really everyone loves to dance to weird songs when I played this out. Hope you like it, enjoy. Click here for the playlist.

Always nice to ask friends and listeners about what they are listening to. It introduced us to Hugo Fattoruso and new afrobeats by D’Banji in this episode. Thanks Yamandu and Asheru. During the show the DJ of the show before us (Aroy Dee) shared the original of the Washed Out track with us, thank you (everything has its sources). And a special shout out to Loraine, the list we got through the mail was so nice the tips seeped to more than one show and made us listen to artists again we kind of forgot. Keep it coming. (!)
All this and more, like a very nice Kelis song from the beginning of the last decade (sounds old, but doesn’t) and a Beautiful Swimmers Remix which was a very nice second listening discovery for me in the hour of radio below.

It’s funny that after our 50th show we’re always excited when we hit another decimal. Now were in the seventies I can feel episode 100 already .
This one is very varied, a little improvised wrap up of music we still wanted to play but didn’t get to in the past shows. So here you go, an overlooked Bakey Ustl thing, Kerrier District and a little more bass, but some Faust, reggae and capoeira music as well.

We’ve been a bit busy again. Since the announcement of the party we haven’t been very active on the web, sorry for the little updates. This show kind of counters busy times with mellow music. I found it a very sooting soundtrack for the many tram rides I had to make lately.
It’s Radna en me playing back to back, so you won’t hear a lot of talking. That, and we just didn’t really feel like talking through this selection.
We wish you all the best for the new year. I remember starting 2011 with hearing Brooklyn Zoo very loud on a houseparty. This year people were more into Asap Rocky and Drake to start 2012. Nonetheless, our first show of the new year kicks off with some classic ODB, and there are more gritty moments – like the messy beats from Taz Arnold, new rap music by Vince Staples and wave from the Antilles islands.
Ti$a – James Brown
Ol’ Dirty Bastard – Lift Up Ya Skirt
Gil Evans – Time of the Barracudas
Def Sound – A Song Called Anything (Feat. Alex Isley)

It isn’t really a strict tradition of us to do end of the year shows, but this has been a good year. We did a full year of shows at Red Light Radio with some very nice guests, played in two museums, went to the International Radio Festival in Zurich last summer and kind of ended the year in Brussels.
Last week we decided it would be nice to invite some close friends of Future Vintage to have an impromptu retrospective of the year. Radna and I always strive to make our shows as diverse as possible, and without tips of the people around us we would have missed some great music and vibes.
So, without further ado: thank you listeners, thank you Red Light Radio, friends, family…
