Not out of nostalgia, but mainly for that feeling of live broadcasting, of knowing that something is happening in the now – and you’re not able to skip. Recently live radio makes a comeback trough ustream. “You’re On”, it says, and that’s exactly what the website does: making it very ease to broadcast live.

There’s a lot of crappy webcam talkshows, but there are some great radio gems to find. My favourite ustream moment thusfar was the night when Mamiko was broadcasting live from London with James Pants and Hudson Mohawke, while Ras G, Lukid, Lorn and people from all over the world were listening and commenting in the chatbox – live.

Some recommendations, got more? Please comment.

Mondaynight: Lukid

Tuesdaynight: Office Jam

Wednesdaynight: Hepcat Radio (10PM CET)

All these shows are London based by the way. If you enjoy this, also take a look and sign the petition to save legendary London club Plastic People from closing. It’s a homebase for the music scene there, so please show support.

For me, jazz is still a bit distant and abstract (although I do have some jazz records, go to concerts and am in the middle of reading Sun Ra’s biography). It might change, also because Aardvarck just payed tribute to John Coltrane by sharing a one hour selection on RMBA Radio.

His choice for John Coltrane is maybe a surprise for those who know him from his techno and beat related productions, but Aardvarck has an encyclopidiac knowledge of music – and I’m happy he shares that with us. Oh and while your at it, please also check out the classic Sun Ra tribute by Max Cole & 1.1.

It features all the looks of love: the new, the forbidden, the unanswered, the one at first sight and the neverending. Also, the line-up of this mix is amazing: Dam-Funk, J.Rocc, James Pants, Peanut Butter Wolf and Mayer Hawthorne all play 10 minutes of love tracks. Happy Valentine!

This is a bit overdue, but I think the video interview with Dutch producer Martyn, made by Alex Deforce of On-Point, deserves some extra attention. For a while now, On-Point.tv presents video’s on artists such as Dam Funk, Trus Me and Jose James. In a recent episode, Alex meets with Martyn in his former hometown, Eindhoven. Martyn, who currently lives in Washington DC, talks about how the Philips history influenced the Eindhoven music scene and how different generations shaped the development of techno, drum ‘n bass and dubstep. Martyn himself is influenced by all of these genres. On March 3th Martyn will play at the 5daysoff festival in Paradiso, together with Four Tet, Floating Points, Nosaj Thing and Flying Lotus.

Now there’s a label, clothing line and also a great collection of mixtapes. The latter is even for free, since you can all download them over here. I really enjoyed the LOVE LOVE mix my friend Mamiko aka Wednesday Nite did recently, and also Dorian Concept added a new mix. With that much quality, I’d recommend to subscribe to the LuckyMe Podcast.
