How To Put Together A Picture-Perfect Art Gallery Wall

by Bonnie Leave a Comment

If you’re an art lover like me, you’re eager to display visual art on your walls. Creating a gallery wall in your home can be a fun way to jazz up your space. This interior design trend can really transform a room. Here are the steps for putting together a picture-perfect art gallery wall.

1. Collect artwork that you want to display

Thrift stores, yard sales, and even online stores can be a great place to find cool pieces to display. Here are some places to look for cool images. Have some scissors ready so you can cut out the ones you like!

  • Calendars
  • Books about nature
  • Vintage magazines
  • Cook books
  • CD covers
  • Record album covers
  • Beautiful printed fabric (scarves, table cloths, dresses)
  • Cards
  • Posters
  • Postcards

2. Frame your finds

Collect picture frames. You can go with uniform frames, or pick up an eclectic variety. The sky’s the limit! The way you mat your pictures is important. A uniform look (such as all pictures having a wide, 6 inch white mat around the image) will tie together the wall. Or, you could go for contrast and mix up the colors and width of the mat.

3. Add in some variety (optional)

In addition to including framed paper or fabric images, you can think about adding in some variety. How about a mirror? Or a large letter or word that is important to you? If you’re creating a wall in a nursery, for example, you might include your child’s initials. Or, if the wall is in your family room, how about the word “love” or “Together”?

Next, put up your pictures. Play around with the spacing and arrangement. Keep stepping back to get an overall big-picture view. When it’s just right, enjoy!
