Wearing a vintage blazer circa the ’80s doesn’t mean you have to dress like a character from Dynasty.
The fashionable females behind Washington, DC blog Spicy Candy prove that ’80s blazers are as versatile as a colored cardigan for pairing with their favorite summer looks while still showing off some sexy leg.
1980s clothing is probably the least liked of all vintage eras. But like any decade, it’s more important that you pick and choose the trends that work for your style personality without worry that you’re looking too “literally vintage.”
Whether you lived the decade or experienced your first steps in it, I believe that there’s an ’80s baby in all of us.
So to help show how ’80s vintage blazers are a girls’ best friend when it comes to looking cute ‘n chic, I asked some of my best friends in fashion blogging to share four great outfits wearing their favorite vintage blazers to inspire some ’80s vintage for your summer style!
I met Katya and Carlis of Spicy Candy DC after spying a cute Minnie Mouse cropped tee on Katya in an outfit post. I asked her if the top was vintage (I suspected it was, but it’s actually from Urban Outfitters!) and our relationship grew from there.
Miss Minnie can be seen in Katya’s first look below — she wore it to pay homage to how our digital relationship all began!
What do you think of Spicy Candy’s modern vintage looks? Which one is your favorite?

1980s Vintage Blazers
Katya and Carlis are talented thrifters who discovered these designer ’80s blazers in their local Goodwill store.
Carlis chose to style a vintage Christian Dior blazer in pumpkin orange, while Katya is wearing a Saks Fifth Avenue white hot blazer for her outfits.
Important to note is that they chose blazers complimentary to their skin tone, hair color and overall style pizazz. You’ll notice that Carlis has an extroverted energy to her styling, while Katya opts to dress in a mysteriously sexy way.
Vintage Blazer for Playful Pretty
Outfit: Romper – TJ Maxx / Wedges – Chinese Laundry
CARLIS says: I love how a romper can go from casual to dressy and it all really depends on what other pieces you use to make the outfit one way or the other.
I paired this teal romper with my orange vintage blazer for some color blocking. I also happened to have shoes that matched both colors exactly, so I kept the rest of the outfit simple since the shoes already have a busy pattern with loud colors!
SAMMY DAVIS VINTAGE says: Be loud, and be proud Carlis! I’m a size 10 so I doubt this could happen in reality, but quite honestly I want to steal those shoes from your feet. In fact, I may visit Chinese Laundry right now to buy myself a pair!
But I digress ;-) Color blocking orange and teal is a huge feat in fashion. And let’s just say you pulled it off in flying (fabulous!) color.
Vintage Blazer for White Hot Summer
Outfit: Shorts – Vintage Levis / Belt – Vintage / Cropped Minnie Tee & Hat – Urban Outfitters / Shoes – Nine West / Sunnies – American Apparel / Bracelet Arm Party – She’s Unique
KATYA says: High -waisted denim cut offs, a cropped top, and blazer is probably one of my favorite outfit combinations of all times, especially when the blazer is a classic ’80s cut and made from 100 percent silk!
I absolutely love how a staple piece such as a blazer can instantly add some chic to a casual outfit such as this one. I also love the playfulness of the Minnie cropped top — she’s such a little fashion icon, isn’t she?
I threw in a few fun accessories including a pair of cool sunnies and a hat for my perfect summer look!
SAMMY DAVIS VINTAGE says: Katya, Minnie is definitely an underrated style icon! I personally believe her bright polka dot dress and hair bow with bright yellow shoes should be ranked as high as the Givenchy Little Black Dress worn by Audrey Hepurn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s!
What I appreciate most about this look is that you look so effortlessly sexy. You’ve kept it sophisticated up top and drew all attention to those killer Ukranian legs of yours. Yowza! Miss Minnie would be proud!
Vintage Blazer for Leopard Love
Outfit: Jeans – Indigo Rein / Blouse – Zara / Necklace & Sandals – Steve Madden
CARLIS says: I love how orange and leopard compliment one another, so creating this outfit was pretty easy!
I decided to wear a statement necklace with it to give my casual outfit a fun twist.
SAMMY DAVIS VINTAGE says: It tickles me that you call this outfit casual! I’d love to see what you consider non-casual, Carlis! This lovely leopard look is nothing short of magical, because I know the average girl doesn’t think to wear leopard with orange.
For the most part, orange is a difficult color to rock with confidence but you do it so well because you’ve recognized it works with your coloring, complexion and personality!
Thanks for showing girls that they can dare to wear the unexpected and spice up their daily wardrobes, Spicy Candy style!
Vintage Blazer for Sexy ‘n Sweet
Outfit: Body Con Dress – American Apparel / Heels – Zara / Clutch – Thrifted / Necklace – Forever 21
KATYA says: I really love body con dresses, but if you have a few curves like I do, it’s definitely hard to wear during the daytime without getting a few of the “What is she wearing?” looks.
So throw on a long blazer over it to dress it down a bit by showing just enough of your body shape, but not revealing too much either. It’s the absolute perfect solution!
SAMMY DAVIS VINTAGE says: The best style advantage of a vintage blazer, particularly from the 1980s, is that they are longer cut than today’s styles. They are as convenient as a collection of cardigans, however a lighter material blazer is so much more chic than a wool cardi for summer.
I love this look because it’s such a throwback to the ’90s, since you’re pairing a blazer with a ’90s fashion staple, the body con dress. Minimalist trailblazer Calvin Klein would be so proud!
ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTORS
Carlis and Katya, both 31, started Spicy Candy DC more than 2 years ago just as a hobby to connect these best friends through their mutual love of fashion and the food/entertainment scene of the city they call home, Washington, DC.
With stylish toes in both the US and their home countries abroad (Carlis was born in Bolivia and Katya in the Ukraine but grew up in South America), these ladies bring more to the blogging world than just the average pretty American girl-next-door.
“We hope that in the next 5 years Spicy Candy DC is more of a brand, a website, and a destination for not only outfit posts but for everything else that we love,” says Carlis.
“Carlis and I took a chance on what seemed a simple hobby at the time, and it turned out to be one of the coolest, most amazing experiences of our lives as best friends and blogger partners,” adds Katya. “It’s exciting what you can achieve when there is passion, dedication, and love for what you do!”
