3 Reasons to STOP Visiting Your Neighborhood Thrift Store

by Bonnie Leave a Comment

Some thrift stores just aren’t worth shopping in — even if the location is convenient! You could be getting ripped off, or worse, bringing home things that aren’t good for your living environment. Read on to find out three reasons to stop visiting your neighborhood thrift store.

1. You’ve Heard Others Got Bedbugs

If you hear about people in your area getting bedbugs from the local second hand store, stop shopping there! It’s not worth the risk. Bedbugs are difficult to spot, and once you bring home a contaminated item they can spread through out your home.

2. The Items are WAY Overpriced

If you’ve noticed a pattern of overpricing at your local shop, it might be time to take a stand. Stop shopping at the overpriced store, and take your business elsewhere.

3. The Clothing Smells Musty

Your nose is a great resource. It’s giving you data that your other senses might miss. Clean second-hand clothes smell good. If you can’t stand the smell of your local thrift shop, it might be because the clothes are not being cleaned before going out on the shelf. While some second hand shops launder every item that comes through the doors, other stores trust donors to wash clothing before bringing it in. This can lead to less-than clean items on the rack, which leads to that musty, moldy smell. Trust your nose, and stay away if the store smells bad.
