How to Make Your Vintage Property Extra Secure

by Nicole Leave a Comment

If you live in a particularly high-crime area or simply want extra peace of mind, you might be looking for ways to make your property more secure, especially at night. If you’ve got a large property with a lot of land, this can be even more difficult. Whether you live in the countryside or in the city, some of these tips could be for you. Here we’re going to look at a few different ways to make your home extra secure.

Install exterior lighting

Table of Contents

  • Install exterior lighting
  • Fix the fencing around your property
  • Use security doors and screens
  • Install a security alarm and camera system
  • Get a dog
  • Join neighborhood watch

This is one of the best new ways to make your property more secure. Not only that, but it can actually bring your home into the 21st century and even add value to your property. The right exterior lighting could consist of uplights, spotlights and other innovations. They’ll make your home seem appealing in the evening — but not to burglars and other people who don’t want to be seen.

Fix the fencing around your property

If you haven’t got perimeter fencing around your property, get it. One mistake many people make with fencing is they put up a poorly finished job and one that isn’t really all that secure. You might want to consider higher fences, or even barbed wire in some areas. Make sure it’s not easy to simply climb over or get through. And another thing — keep the external and fences areas of your property well lit as well, so you can see if anyone is trying to penetrate your fencing.

Use security doors and screens

Security doors can make your property even more safe. So can screens in the right areas of your property. Whether you’re looking for security screens and doors in Perth or elsewhere, they can be a great addition to your property.

Install a security alarm and camera system

These are getting cheaper and cheaper — there now isn’t really a reason not to have a fully functional home alarm system. You can even get cameras for less than you think now, too. Some modern systems can even be connected to the internet so that you can check your home when you’re not there with a simple app. If you can’t afford to put cameras all over your property, you could still consider dummy cams so that people think they’re being watched. Just make sure you get a brand that looks exactly like the real thing.

Get a dog

One of the best ways to keep your property secure at all times is with a dog. While getting a dog is a big decision, it could be a great addition to your family. It’s a good idea to get one with a big bark — just make sure security isn’t the only reason you get a dog. You could also try a bark alarm that makes people who come near your property think you’ve got a dog when you haven’t. That could be enough of a deterrent in itself.

Join neighborhood watch

Make sure your neighbors are looking out for your property — this can be one of the simplest and easiest ways to use your community to help you keep your property secure.
