A vintage wedding is a beautiful affair. One technique that you can add to your tool-box, if you are planning an elegant vintage wedding, is whitewashing. This technique allows you to create beautiful vintage furniture with a light, white glow. When you pair whitewashed tables, chairs, or decor with colorful flowers and cut crystal glasses, your theme will be complete!
The Steps:
1. Collect your materials
The whitewash technique is done with stain rather than paint. Paint creates an opaque covering, while stain allows for the natural grain of the wood to shine through. If you choose water based stain, you can work inside without worrying about fumes, but if you go with an oil based stain be sure to work outside.
Depending on what you are whitewashing, you will need either small or large brushes. Foam brushes work well, and it is a good idea to have at least one that is small enough to work into small corners and crevices. Use a drop cloth below you. You will also need the vintage furniture or decor you are whitewashing!
2. Prep The Surface
Make sure the surface you are going to whitewash is clean and dry!
3. Put On A Coat Of Stain
Paint on your first coat. The stain will soak in. Allow it to dry thoroughly before judging whether the piece needs another coat.
