Sizzling Trend: The Bodycon Dress and How to Wear It

by Bonnie Leave a Comment

What is a ‘bodycon dress’? Bodycon stands for body conscious. This is a type of dress that allows the wearer to show off her beautiful bod, rather than hide it under layers of clothing. The style is unique in that it doesn’t control or manipulate your curves (like a bandage dress might — hugging everything into place like a pair of Spanx). Instead, a bodycon dress will fit snugly and flow over your natural curves.

If you’re wondering how to pull off this style of dress, read on! This list of dos and don’ts will help you pull off the look in a stunning, sophisticated way!

Do: Show Off Your Best Features

This dress is all about you and your confidence levels. If you’re proud of your shoulders, choose a strapless dress. Want to draw attention to your back? Go for a backless bodycon style. A short mid-thigh dress would be perfect for you if you love your long, toned legs.

Don’t: Show Too Much Skin

If you choose a mid-thigh dress, it should have a high neckline. Going for a strapless or cut-out dress? Make sure it doesn’t dip down too low on your torso. Walk the line between confident and too revealing by balancing out which features you show off.

Do: Practice Self Love

Self love can be really powerful! Instead of being ashamed of your shape, find things that you can appreciate about it. Practice a little self love by appreciating your unique body before ever trying to wear a bodycon dress out in public. You might just stand in front of a mirror and give yourself a few compliments. “Girl, you look gorgeous!” is a good place to start. Get a little more specific if you dare… This can be a real confidence booster!

Don’t: Choose a Thin Fabric

Bodycon dresses hug your curves and highlight your figure. Pick a thick fabric rather than one that’s super thin. This will keep the look classy and sophisticated rather than trashy!

Don’t: Overdo it With Accessories

If you clutter up your look with accessories, the focus of your outfit will be drawn away from your dress and figure. That’s the opposite of what you want! Instead, let the dress steal the show. Play down your accessories. Choose a simple clutch, one piece of statement jewelry, or long drop earrings. Not all three!

Now that you know a little bit more about what the bodycon dress is and how to wear it, are you excited to get one? Leave a comment and share your thoughts!
