While many people dream of their big wedding day, the holiday that comes afterwards is just as important. A honeymoon sets the tone for your marriage, it’s time for you to get away and enjoy romance.

While the tradition dates back hundreds of years, the concept is much the same. It is spending time feeling the harmony of love and rejoicing in your togetherness.

In the busy world we live in, it can be difficult to get time all to ourselves. This is why a honeymoon is so important.

Perhaps you had a huge theme in mind, there are plenty of ways to plan weddings online and you need to enjoy the aftermath the best way possible and have some time to yourselves. Or work has been so busy leading up to your special day that you have barely seen each other.

Love hormones have been shown to spike during this time, so it’s important to preserve it. Later, when life throws challenges at you, these memories will keep you afloat.

It can be tempting to hold off on a honeymoon if you have a lot on your plate. However, you should go as soon as possible and take advantage of the afterglow of your special day.

It’s about creating memories, sharing your dreams and laying the foundations of a happy future. Making a plan together is exciting, and it shows how you deal with organizing together!

Planning is necessary as it should be a dream vacation for you both. You may have different ideas about what that dream entails so it’s important to discuss together ahead of time.

The world is quite literally your oyster, so it helps to plan as you can narrow things down. There is so much information out there that creating your own list will help.

Here’s some inspiration if you don’t know where to begin.

Top Honeymoon Destinations

Some people think of a city break, such as New York or London for their honeymoon. Others seek tranquility in the Seychelles or Caribbean.

Famous Honeymoon Destinations

It depends on your ideas, there are plenty of bucket lists online that you can take inspiration from but these places we are going to mention contain plenty to make memories together.

Las Vegas

Famous for being a big wedding destination, the Neon Capital of the World is also a great place to honeymoon. The sheer level of entertainment on offer makes it thrilling, but there’s also a lot of luxury.

Famous Honeymoon Destinations

If you or your significant other play poker online, then you simply must play at some of the top casinos. Sites such as 888 poker get their inspiration from Sin City, so you have to experience the real thing.

Vegas is chock full of once-in-a-lifetime experiences. There are six amazing Cirque du Soleil shows on offer, full of spellbinding choreography and gravity-defying moves.

You can also see some replicas of the world’s most famous sights, including:

  • The Statue of Liberty
  • The Eiffel Tower
  • Luxor Pyramid
  • The canals of Venice
  • Trevi Fountain

Pop by the Las Vegas Natural History Museum to see a full size replica of King Tut’s tomb.

You can also have superlative dining experiences in Las Vegas, from:

  • Joël Robuchon’s 3 Michelin Star restaurant at the MGM Grand
  • Mizumi, for top Japanese sushi and sashimi at the Wynn Las Vegas
  • Twist by Pierre Gagnaire

You can also share some amazing spa time at award-winning spas such as the Encore. Try their “Couple’s Good Luck Ritual”.

Paris

The other “City of Light” is renowned for its romance. Picture yourself walking hand-in-hand alongside the Seine, popping into quaint cafes for wine and a baguette.

Paris is a lover’s dream, there’s no doubt about that. Every cobbled alleyway and rustic little bistro is charming and artful.

It’s also home to some of the world’s most famous sights, here you can see:

  • The Arc de Triomphe
  • The Louvre Museum
  • The Palace of Versailles

As well as many more.

Buy your loved one perfume/cologne, get a photo under the Eiffel Tower and book a room with a view. Don’t forget to sample some of France’s amazing gourmet fare and feed each other the foods of love.

France is best from May – September when the trees are in full bloom and the weather is nice.

Amalfi Coast

Besides Santorini, the Amalfi coast is one of my favorites places. Pastel-colored houses that stumble down cliffs to the sea, sandy beaches and plenty of glamor are all on offer in Italy. Organize travel online, hire a car and drive down the Amalfi Coast together and you’ll never forget it.

Famous Honeymoon Destinations

This is old school European chic with 30 miles of enchanting villages to explore. Sip limoncello at a cliffside restaurant and book an exclusive beach club for daytime sunbathing.

You’ll be following in the footsteps of emperors, who holidayed here in the 9th – 12th centuries. Take a ferry to Capri to mingle with the jetset and pop by Nerano, a secluded hilltop village of Sorrento.

Other Ideas in Europe

You could tour around Europe if you’re planning a longer honeymoon. Otherwise check out these amazing spots:

  • Copenhagen – see the Little Mermaid sculpture and funky Scandinavian design
  • Croatia – walk walled cities and fortresses, visit unspoilt vineyards
  • Edinburgh – authentic whisky tasting, exploring old castles and hike to Arthur’s Seat

Wherever you choose, your honeymoon is bound to be the most special vacation of your life.
